It's one thing to be an asshole about gay marriage.. I mean. I get it. Change is scary. It's ridiculous that it's scary, but if you feel that your religion is threatened, I get being an asshole. You're still being an asshole, and I will still try to convince you why you shouldn't be, and will still fight against your oppression because it's wrong... But I will be inclined to believe that there is a possibility that you are possibly just misguided or ill informed and after time you will understand the error of your ways instead of automatically thinking that you're a horrible, hateful person.
But when you're a business who decides that all books mentioning homosexuality from non-fiction to children's books like "Heather Has Two Mommies" can't be raked because of their adult nature while you keep the rank on books (with pictures) about Playboy Playmates, that's fucking ridiculous.
The most ridiculous part, of course, being that the top search result for "homosexuality" is "A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality." WTF? Aside from the fact that that book even exists (stay tuned for the sequels: How To Get Bloodstains Out Of Your Best KKK Whites and How To Beat the Gay Out of Your Children Without Leaving Too Many Questionable Marks), how is it okay to have the number one book be anti-gay?
Help google-bomb the motherfuckers by creating a link to http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com/amazonrank with the link-tag "Amazon Rank". Example: Amazon Rank.
Also, there is a petition here. And there's always the ability to boycott.
I don't buy very many books online (I've mostly bought DVDs from Amazon, but I'm sure I'll find something better, even if it's not as inexpensive) but I guess I'm going to have to start buying things elsewhere. Which is lame because Amazon is convenient, but the best way to condone this sort of behavior is to do nothing, and I can't really in good conscious support this sort of thing because aside from just being completely oppressive and horrible, even going to the website makes me ill. I feel like just giving them more hits is equivalent to kicking people I love, know, and care about in the face.
I'm even sad for fandom characters. A book bought at Amazon basically denounces the validity of the relationships our entire subculture is based on.
I didn't think I would get this upset about this, but I am and I just... God. Really, universe? Are you fucking serious?
